Risks of Known Eyelash Enhancing Methods
by
Mochee G. Pham
Human emotions, like fear, anger, sadness, and excitement, are often seen through a person\’s eyes, thus, there is the saying that the eyes are the windows to the soul. With windows come curtains, and eyelashes serve as the curtains. Eyelashes are primarily present in order to protect the eyes. They have basically the same structure as hairs in other parts of the body and make them a good weapon in order to sense any harmful threats causing a reflexive action wherein the eyes blink and close. Aside from protection, eyelashes are more known to be important factor to one\’s beauty.
Through the years, we have become more obsessed with enhancing parts of the human body, case in point are the false eyelashes. Like the controversies that plastic surgery has faced, there have also been talks about eyelash enhancing methods. Though not as controversial, still, it\’s a matter of health.
Eyelash enhancing methods include application of oils, eyelash implants, eyelash extensions, and false eyelashes.
There are those moments when you can\’t help but rub your eyes and unknowingly pull some of those lashes out or those days when you get a bit lazy to remove your mascara and sleep in them, causing you eyelashes to become brittle. Eyelash hair, like any other hair in the body, has a cycle to go through once they fall off, accidentally or not. It usually takes eight weeks for your eyelashes to grow back. Oils like as castor oil, almond oil, and olive oil are known to help in naturally growing or lengthening them. The only thing to note when using oils is that you have to make sure you are not allergic to them.
For a lot of people, oil works but for those who want instant, permanent lashes, there is eyelash transplantation. It\’s not as cheap but it surely does the trick. Eyelash transplantation is done by taking hairs from the scalp that are meticulously placed one by one on the upper and lower lash lid. Since the hair implanted includes the roots, it keeps on growing so it is advised to trim the hairs a least one a month. A patient undergoing eyelash transplantation may like it at first but he/she should be aware about the risks that come with it. Misdirection of hair or trichiasis may occur, eye infections are not so unpredictable, and scarring post-operation is also possible.
Eyelash extensions and false eyelashes have been around for quite a while now. The former may cost a bit more than the latter but it would definitely be more convenient if you don\’t want to reapply your false eyelashes every day. It\’s not all about enhancing, though. The use of eyelash extensions also has bad effects to it. It is possible for your natural eyelash hairs to fall out as your extensions do. Also, your eyes may be more sensitive to different fluids that it comes in contact with. Take the eyelash glue, for example; it could irritate the eyes and cause soreness, and, in extreme cases, blindness. Fake eyelashes when worn a longer time than necessary could cause harm by accumulating bacteria and viruses on the lashes itself. These organisms then would cause further irritation to the eyes.
The use of oils, the invention of eyelash extensions, false eyelashes, and eyelash implantations; what will come next after these innovations? With the presence of risks and all, would you be willing to try them for the sake of beauty?
